Week 1 Body Awareness
Now we have reached the part of the course that will give you the opportunity to work with your child. Each week or chapter is designed to work on specific areas: one video per day. Feel free to repeat lessons, or go back to them anytime. Don`t try to work on more than one video per day, though. Enjoy!
Getting to know the own Body
This week will start slow. All is about creating awareness for the child`s body - its length and dimensions, the proprioception in the joints, developing movement through sensation.
Nothing can be taken for granted. Before we move, we have to find a connection between body and brain and get to know what exactly we are supposed to move.
Children have to develop an idea of their body`s shape and structure - the sensorimotor cortex of their brain has to develop.
This chapter is also designed to teach you as a caregiver some basic handling skills - using soft hands, feeling muscle and bone, how to push gently.
Too slow for you?
If you already have a lot of experience with Feldenkrais, Anat Baniel, or related work, or a very active child, you can skip this part and move on to week 2 - but please come back to it whenever it fits, or whenever you would actually appreciate a calm day. Some of these exercises can be included in your nighttime rituals.
