Improving your Handling Skills

Our movements and actions interfere with the child. If we want them to do the movement on its own, we should limit that interference, so the child is able to concentrate on itself and his or her own body. This awareness is the key to learning.

Again, first I look at my own actions. We can train this ability not only while working with our children, but in every moment of our lives.

Homework

Whatever you do - lift a glass of water. Open a door. Hold a pen. Use as little effort as possible. Remember: Think about tuning a violin. You don`t end up in the right position by chance - you have to overdo it to know it was too little effort. Only then you can end up with the optimal amount of effort.

One thing that makes a professional more effective is the quality of touch.

I want the child to feel secure in gravity. There sometimes it can be very useful to hold fast, or hold the child with the whole body.

I want to child to feel itself. When it feels me, it is already distracted.
