Upsee

Here is a wonderful device for non- walking children that was invented by a mother of a special needs child. It allows the child to experience upright walking, learn about weight shifts, have their arms free and play with other children. At the same time, the caretaker does not have to bend down, carries the weight easily, and have their hands and eyes free as well.

I usually find that, if you can afford it and get it delivered to you, it is a good idea to buy the product. They have a lot of experience with materials, fit and design. However, the first prototype was built with simple boards under the feet, velcro tapes and a climbing harness.

Wheelchair

If your child is a bit older (or heavier), think about getting a wheelchair. If you want and expect your child to walk, a wheelchair does not mean giving up on that idea. It means until he or she is walking, they will have a possibility to move more independently. It means keeping up with their friends and concentrate on life and jokes and conversations, instead of having to put all of their attention on managing the next step. Even if your child is not able to operate the wheelchair itself, it will be sitting upright, breathe better, and be on eye level with other children.

It will also help to protect your health.

A wheelchair can be a great step to independence.
